To Guess or to Think? Hybrid Algorithms for SAT (Extended Abstract)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Complete algorithms for solving propositional satis ability fall into two main classes: backtracking search (e.g., the Davis-Putnam Procedure [1]) and resolution (e.g., Directional Resolution [4]). Backtracking may be viewed as a systematic \guessing" of variable assignments, while resolution invokes making inferences, i.e. \thinking". Experimental results show that \pure guessing" or \pure thinking" might be ine cient. We propose an approach that combines both techniques and yields a family of hybrid algorithms, parameterized by a bound on the "e ective" amount of resolution allowed. The idea is to divide the set of propositional variables into two classes: conditioning variables, which are assigned truth values, and resolution variables, which are resolved upon. We report on preliminary experimental results demonstrating that on certain classes of problems hybrid algorithms are more e cient than either of their components in isolation.

متن کاملOptimization of Combined Heat and Power Systems using a Hybrid Algorithm of Ant and Bee Colony Optimization
Abstract: In the last few years, due to the development of the new equipment in power systems, challenges have appeared in their planning and operation. One of these issues is the development of combined heat and power (CHP) units. These units have the capability to generate heat and electricity simultaneously according to their limitations. Hence, it is necessary for them to think about the ar...
متن کاملOn Cryptographic Attacks Using Backdoors for SAT
Propositional satisfiability (SAT) is at the nucleus of state-ofthe-art approaches to a variety of computationally hard problems, one of which is cryptanalysis. Moreover, a number of practical applications of SAT can only be tackled efficiently by identifying and exploiting a subset of formula’s variables called backdoor set (or simply backdoors). This paper proposes a new class of backdoor set...
متن کاملSoftware Cost Estimation by a New Hybrid Model of Particle Swarm Optimization and K-Nearest Neighbor Algorithms
A successful software should be finalized with determined and predetermined cost and time. Software is a production which its approximate cost is expert workforce and professionals. The most important and approximate software cost estimation (SCE) is related to the trained workforce. Creative nature of software projects and its abstract nature make extremely cost and time of projects difficult ...
متن کاملImprovements to Hybrid Incremental SAT Algorithms
Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) solvers have been successfully applied to a wide range of practical applications, including hardware model checking, software model finding, equivalence checking, and planning, among many others. SAT solvers are also the building block of more sophisticated decision procedures, including Satisfiability Modulo Theory (SMT) solvers. The large number of applications of...
